Nux Vomica⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Nux is the main remedy to have on standby during the festive season! It is the #1 remedy for hangover and it covers a lots of symptoms relating to overindulgence. There are symptoms such as headache or migraine following excessive consumption of alcohol; nausea and vomiting; retching or ineffectual urging with vomiting or diarrhoea; ineffectual urge to stool (constipation); and undigested food sitting like a “rock” in the stomach. After over-eating, those needing Nux will often say, “If only I could vomit I would feel better!” Also has a big sensitivity to noise, light, or odours.
Keynotes: Worse in the mornings; Worse after overindulgence; Ineffectual urging.

Carbo Veg⠀

Carbo veg is known as the corpse reviver, because of its remarkable ability to revive people, and since we are discussing overindulgence, think of times when you’ve eaten something incompatible, and have that feeling of being at the verge of passing out. So Carbo veg is useful in situations such as sensations of collapse; coldness with an aversion to heat; difficulty in breathing, air hunger and desire to be fanned; unable to lie down – must be propped up; and, extreme bloating, indigestion and belching. These last symptoms make it a useful prescription for over-indulgence, whether the person is at death’s door or not, it is the ‘sensation as if’ that is important here!⠀
Keynotes: Better by burping; Better being fanned; Worse warmth.⠀⠀⠀

Lycopodium

Lycopodium can have digestive complaints following a faulty diet or over-eating. People who need Lycopodium will nearly always crave sweets and prefer to have cooked warm food rather than salads, and also prefer warm drinks instead of cold. They are well-known for appetites that disappear on a few mouthfuls of food, but they can also have ravenous appetites that increases upon eating (useful remedy for bulimia). They will typically suffer from digestive complaints and bloated abdomens, especially late in the afternoon or early evening between 4pm to 8pm. Their tummy will rumble noisily with wind and they can be upset by foods such as oysters, cabbage and onion.
Keynotes: Worse 4pm to 8pm; Better warm food & drinks; Worse warmth.

Pulsatilla⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Pulsatilla has many problems occurring in the digestive field, making it a useful remedy for forms of over-indulgence. Indigestion from any rich food or fats is a common trait. There may be desires for fatty foods such as ice cream, cream, butter, or cheese, but they can aggravate the gut and cause abdominal bloating or nausea. As Pulsatilla is changeable, there may even be an aversion to these foods, instead of the usual desire. Another aversion is to pork, and this will cause digestive upsets if eaten.
Keynotes: Lack of thirst; Better for open-air; Worse in the afternoon and evening. ⠀⠀
